The Maldives Heritage Society has successfully completed the Pareefenganda Platform Project, marking a significant milestone in the conservation and promotion of one of Laamu Gan’s most important natural and cultural heritage sites.
The project involved the construction of a visitor platform overlooking Pareefenganda, a unique mangrove wetland and natural lake renowned for its biodiversity, scenic beauty, and the rich cultural traditions, beliefs, and stories associated with the area. The platform was developed to provide visitors with a safe and environmentally sensitive way to experience and appreciate the site while supporting its long-term conservation.
The completed platform was officially inaugurated by the President of the Haddhunmathi Atoll Council at a special ceremony attended by representatives of partner organizations, stakeholders, and community members. The opening marks a new chapter in efforts to promote environmental awareness, heritage appreciation, and sustainable tourism within the region.
The Maldives Heritage Society expressed its sincere gratitude to all partners and supporters who contributed to the successful completion of the project, including the Laamu Gan Council, Laamu Gan WDC, funding partners Endheri Project, Six Senses Laamu, FEDO Pvt Ltd, contractors, volunteers, and community members. Their collective support and commitment made it possible to transform the vision for Pareefenganda into a reality.
The Society hopes that the new platform will serve as a focal point for education, research, recreation, and heritage tourism, while encouraging greater public appreciation and protection of the Maldives’ unique natural and cultural heritage.
