About us

The Maldives Heritage Society is an independent non-governmental organization dedicated to the conservation, preservation, and promotion of the rich cultural and natural heritage of the Maldives.

Since our establishment, we have actively worked with local councils, schools, government institutions, and community stakeholders to strengthen heritage awareness and protection across the country. Our initiatives focus on safeguarding the Maldives’ unique heritage while encouraging community participation, youth engagement, and sustainable environmental stewardship.

We have partnered with several local councils to implement a range of heritage conservation and promotion activities across the country. Through these collaborations, we work to protect important heritage sites, promote local history and traditions, and foster greater public appreciation for the unique identity and heritage of the Maldivian islands.

In addition to heritage conservation, the Society is actively engaged in climate change mitigation and environmental sustainability efforts. These initiatives include community-based tree planting programs, coastal and environmental awareness campaigns, and the development of heritage and nature trails that promote eco-tourism, environmental education, and sustainable interaction with protected natural areas.

The Society also works closely with the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) and several NGOs in conducting environmental monitoring activities and implementing the Sea Turtle Guardian Program in Laamu Gaadhoo.

Through collaboration, education, conservation, and community-driven initiatives, the Maldives Heritage Society remains committed to preserving and promoting the Maldives’ invaluable heritage and environment for future generations.
